We are living a life that exposes our vulnerability as humans. Some may see it like we are a living target and at any point, life may hit us so hard – sometimes, more than we think we can bear. Some may think that God is so cruel to put us in a situation which breaks us – as if He is just watching a reality show to be entertained. But it’s not like that. In the end, his master plan is to wipe away every tear from our eyes, gather us in a place where there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain (Revelation 21:4-5). For Him to do that, we should be prepared and He has fully committed himself to help us in that process (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).
You are Never Alone
Whenever we face the toughest situations in our lives, we normally look for someone to talk to, someone to give us a warm hug, or someone who can offer a shoulder for us to cry on. God knows the value of companionship very much. From the very beginning He said that it’s not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18) and so He created Eve for Adam. This remained true in the New Testament. His greatest gift – His Son was given to suffer with all mankind as an expression of His love. Christ ministered with the twelve and when it’s about time for Him to fulfill God’s will for him to be the sin offering, He promised the Holy Spirit to be with them as they continue the mission (John 14:6-7). This Spirit of Truth remains with us as a helper and comforter to abide with us and remain in us. The promise of His companionship continues in the future – where we will be reunited with Him and enjoy his presence at the marriage supper (Revelation 19:7-10).
God has an active participation in our every situation. His comfort is not designed to be just a fact – but it is to be felt and enjoyed. By being felt, I do not mean that you will actually feel his arms hugging you (but nothing is impossible with Him though), but you experience Him through all the means possible. All we have to do as believers is to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy. 2 Corinthians 1:3 reminds us that our Heavenly Father is “the God of all comfort.” He is able to bind up the broken hearted, to heal the most painful wounds, and to give hope and joy amidst the heaviest sorrows.
Christ himself experienced the same kind of pain that we do as He lived in the world, but He is able to withstand everything, by holding on to the fact that the ultimate authority over pain, trial, and defeat comes from His Abba Father (John 19:10-11). If you feel that your situation brings you a spirit of defeat, you have to believe that God’s authority rules over that spirit and the power of His love for you can takeover.
You are More Than a Conqueror
While we are living in this world, being hurt is inevitable. We are prone to experience all kinds of pain, but remember that all things that hurt you are done under the watchful hands of our Father. You are deeply loved, and His love for you makes you a conqueror (Romans 8:35-37). He’s ready to give you comfort, anytime you need it.
“35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
