The ThirstyDrifter is married!

The Design

When I set foot in high school, that’s when I started realizing the value of setting a timeline for myself. I never meant for it to be a strict timeline — the least I wanted is for everything to be calculated. So I said, if I’m finishing high school in 2009, I will finish college by 2013, then I want to look for a decent job, and maybe get married by 2020. I got so busy kicking off a career path, and so for some time, I lost that timeline in mind. Little did I know, it was indeed God’s appointed time.

Setting the Stage

August 2019, I proposed to my girlfriend for 8 years at Samal Island, Philippines. It was intended to be a vacation that we saved money for, for a couple of months. The kuripot in me had an idea that this is the perfect time for a nice proposal without any extra expense but the ring… and so it happened. In a dinner by the beach, with the resort guests and staff around us, hearing nothing but the waves and chirping insects. Very romantic and quiet, just as how I wanted it to be.

The Adventure

After the proposal, we started planning our dream wedding. We never wanted it to be grand, but we want to gather quite a number of people closest to us, as we exchange vows. Then the pandemic happened. From about 80% ready, we had to start all over again. Waiting for restriction updates week by week is stressful enough — add the negotiations you have to make with suppliers who are also still figuring out ways to cope with the situation. We had sick weeks until we decided to hold off all the planning and wait until there is enough clarity.

It was around August of 2020 when we decided to resume planning — this time, for a micro wedding. Cutting off our guestlist from 150 close friends and family members to 50 is no joke, and heartbreaking. We said the same prayer — “Lord, lead us to the right suppliers”, and it did not fail. We had Archie’s Events Place as our venue and catering provider, we are able to stick with our original designer and photo-video coverage suppliers, and the rest we exercised our creativity, which eventually turned out great and even opened new doors.

The Wedding

I won’t bore you with a long story. Here is the wedding same-day-edit instead. We are both so happy with the solemnity of the wedding and how our families were able to enjoy the wedding party hosted by Ryan Bahalla.
